An approach for fast cascading failure simulation in dynamic models of power systems

چکیده

The ground truth for cascading failure in power system can only be obtained through a detailed dynamic model involving nonlinear differential and algebraic equations whose solution process is computationally expensive. This has prohibited adoption of such models simulation. To solve this, we propose fast simulation approach based on implicit Backward Euler method (BEM) with stiff decay property. Unfortunately, BEM suffers from hyperstability issue case oscillatory instability converges to the unstable equilibrium. We predictor–corrector fully address BEM. predictor identifies eigendecomposition matrix at post-disturbance equilibrium as byproduct corrector uses right eigenvectors identify group machines participating mode. helps applying appropriate protection schemes truth. use Trapezoidal (TM)-based benchmark validate results proposed IEEE 118-bus network, 2383-bus Polish grid, 68-bus system. able track cascade path replicate end TM-based very high accuracy while reducing average time by ≈10−35 fold. was also compared partitioned method, which led similar conclusions.

a study on thermodynamic models for simulation of 1,3 butadiene purification columns

attempts have been made to study the thermodynamic behavior of 1,3 butadiene purification columns with the aim of retrofitting those columns to more energy efficient separation schemes. 1,3 butadiene is purified in two columns in series through being separated from methyl acetylene and 1,2 butadiene in the first and second column respectively. comparisons have been made among different therm...

Computer Simulation of Cascading Disturbances in Electric Power Systems

Executive Summary Hidden failures in protection systems for electric power networks can play significant roles in propagating small disturbances into wide-area disturbances. Hidden failures are incorrect operations of protection device that usually remain undetected until abnormal operating conditions occur. The objective of this research project was to investigate and demonstrate a new approac...

Simulation of Power Systems Dynamics using Dynamic Phasor Models

SUMMARY Dynamic phasor modeling technique is mostly applied on power electronics devices. In this paper, application of the dynamic phasor modeling technique is extended to other major power system components. Starting from the detailed time-domain models, the dynamic phasor models for these components are derived and implemented. Further, an efficiency and accuracy comparison of the dynamic ph...
